Does the BJP distort history?

BJP is rectifying incorrect history written by leftists, communists under education ministers Maulana Azad, Humayun Kabir, Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed and S Nurul Hassan (communist). All of them had allowed distory history books for school. Recently Modi/BJP rectified middle class school NCERT history books which indirectly tried to depict India’s top freedom figher Subhash Chandra Bose in bad light. The earlier textbook stated that Netaji Subhash Bose sought Adolf Hitler's support to raise an army and described Hitler as a dictator whose racist Nazi ideology and expansionist ambitions triggered the Second World War. In the revised edition, this has been replaced with a broader statement saying Netaji Subhash Bose sought support from ‘anti-British forces’, without mentioning Hitler or Nazi ideology.

One has to understand the ulterior motive of leftist and Marxist historians (read distortians like Romila Thapar, Ramchandra Guha of JNU) who enjoyed plum post and social recognition under the congress rule till 2014. They just downgraded almost everybody like Sardar Patel, Netaji Subhash Bose, BR Ambedkar etc., just to glorify Nehru and his dynastic leaders. For them Sardar Bhagat Singh and Khudiram Bose were ‘terrorists’ which matches with British definitions. These biased leftist historians tried all possible tricks to abuse and downgrade Netaji Subhash Bose. Many commissions were setup to investigate the death mystery of Subhash Bose but a solid proof based conclusion remained elusive. These leftist historians abused Subhash Bose as ‘fascist’ just because he sought military help from Germany and Japan. They even called Bose as ‘Tojo’s dog’. In April 1942, Nehru publicly stated that if Subhas Chandra Bose entered India alongside the Japanese army, he would fight him (no Gandhian non-violence this time!). Nehru viewed Japanese advance as an imperialist threat but ignored the British imperialist power ruining his motherland for nearly 200 years! After independence, PM Nehru written latter to British government referring Subhash Bose as ‘your war criminal’ and spied by Bose family for nearly two decades after independence. The spying on Bose family ended only after Nehru died in 1964.

The leftist created a narrative that Nehru loved Subhash Bose just like brother despite differences on certain issues. They cite Nehu’s statement stating Subhash Bose as ‘brave patriot’. But all these are game of narratives that most politicians play. The reality is that they Nehru had deep insecurity from most senior congress leaders like Bose, Sardar Patel and non-congress leaders like BR Ambedkar. These leftist historians say that despite Gandhi ji’s adamant demand that Subhash Bose must resign from the party President post, Nehru and Sarat Chandra Bose (Subhash Bose’s elder brother and senior congress leader) did not resign from the congress working committee despite most leaders resigned. These biased historians withheld the information that Nehru despite not resigning from the working committee, Nehru made a brief statement that working committee members who have resigned have justified reasons to do so and Subhash Bose himself is responsible this mess and Nehru is no longer in any position to help Subhash Bose in this matter (difference of opinion between Gandhi ji and Subhash Bose at Tripuri congress session).

Subhash Bose was so disappointed with ‘friend’ Nehru that he wrote a 27 page letter to Nehru asking his position on various issues in the party. In an interview with Taya Zinkin, (Reporting India – 1962) PM Jawaharlal Nehru told journalist Taya Zinkin: ‘It is true, I did let Subhas down. I did it because I had realised that, at that stage... Gandhi was India. Anything which weakened Gandhi, weakened India’.

On the other hand, Subhash Bose honoured Gandhi ji and Nehru by naming a INA military units as Gandhi Brigade and Nehru Brigade along with Rani Laxmibai Brigade for female fighters. Subhash Bose was not neither pro-Hindu Mahasabha or BJP but BJP/Modi is rectifying the distorted history created by Nehru and other congress dynastic leaders for political mileage. By giving honour to a true patriot Netaji Subhash Bose, BJP is also making some inroads in Bengal which was historically stronghold of the leftists, communists, urban naxals and librandµ intellectuals for last 50-60 years. A strong nationalist shift in Bengal can be seen now with BJP government in power since May 2026.
