Is West Bengal changing?
Bengal is changing faster than you think since BJP came to power in May 2026.
PM Modi reported in social media (Twitter or X) on 18 April 2022 while sharing a graphic detailing the achievements under the ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ such as construction of toilets in over 11.5 crore households and more than 58,000 villages as well as over 3,300 cities becoming open defecation free. He said, the ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ or cleanliness drive directly demonstrated how public participation can fill new energy in the development of a country, Modi said in a tweet in Hindi. Be it construction of toilets or disposal of waste, preservation of historical heritage or competition for cleanliness, the country is writing new stories in the field of cleanliness today, he said.
The Swachh Bharat Mission (Clean India Mission) was officially launched on 02 October 2014 as mark of respect for Gandhiji’s vision of cleanliness, by PM Narendra Modi when he along with a team of local BJP leaders started sweeping a road near Mandir Marg, New Delhi. Following this many BJP leader, social influencers, celebrities were seen cleaning the streets or public places using broom. Subsequently, municipality cleanliness rankings in India officially began in 2016 under the banner of the Swachh Survekshan survey.
As the annual municipality cleanliness completion started in 2016, Indore city municipality, MP continuously started getting ranked as cleanest municipality. Unfortunately, Many Bengal city municipalities ranked at the bottom of this ranking. The educated leftist, communist, urban naxal intellectual influencers of Bengal never criticized TMC government of CM Mamata Banerjee for the urban mess and lack of ease of living in Bengal cities. CM Mamata Banerjee blamed Modi government for deliberately defaming Bengal cities as dirty just for political vendetta and stopped participating in city municipality cleanliness ranking contest from 2017 onwards. This is a perfect way to put the garbage under the carpet! No intellectual bhadraloks in Bengal ever protested against dirty cities despite the fact they were always proactive on all social issues.
Now these leftists, communists, urban naxal intellectual librandµs are criticizing PM Modi/BJP government that India has highest number of polluted (air pollution) cities and hottest cities in the world!

Even in 1965, Bengal was a top performing state in most respect. The rise of senseless Maoist violence inspired by violent Chinese communist revolution against the nationalists, destroyed Bengal completely over the next 60 years (1967-2026). The Bengal recovery is a long road ahead and may take a century to recover its glorious past (2026-2126). Bengal by voting BJP has made the right step after wasting 60 years.
