What are your thoughts on political leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron, attending the five-day India AI Impact Summit?

French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife visited India in February 2026 to attend ‘India AI Impact Summit 2026’. He remained in news limelight for various positive gestures he made. He underwent a morning jogging session at Mumbai’s marine drive and a late night visit to busy CST rail terminus which witnessed 2008 Mumbai terr0r attack. He tried to convey Mumbai/Indian cities are safer now and air is not as bad as Indian leftists, communists (from Bengal & Kerala), urban naxals and librandµs try to project (they get paid by the ecosystem to project India negatively and get inspired by congress leader RaGa). During UPA days, even PM Dr. Manmohan Singh used to deliver the Independence Day speech from the Red Fort of Delhi protected by bullet proof glass. President Macron narrated that a decade ago, street vendors in Mumbai could not open a bank account as they lacked shop address papers but now accepting payments using smartphone. These events being seen as a ‘powerful visual’ of India's changing image

Broadly, President Macron tried to project India positively. These gestures goes a long way to build friendship between the countries. The popularity of Raj Kapoor Bollywood films in USSR/Russia in 1960s helped building India-Russia long term friendship. Similar trend can be seen with India-France friendship. It all started with a cultural bond.

India’s top film director Satyajit Ray was conferred with France's highest civilian award, the Legion of Honour, by then French President François Mitterrand at the National Library in Kolkata. The ceremony was held on 02 February 1989, on the steps of the National Library in Kolkata. In a rare gesture of respect, the President travelled all the way to Kolkata specifically to honour Satyajit Ray. Incidentally, Satyajit Ray got highest Indian civilian award ‘Bharat Ratna’ besides French hifgest civilian award and the Oscar award

A Cultural Protocol: During the ceremony, Mitterrand famously broke the French protocol of kissing the recipient on both cheeks at Ray's request, offering a warm embrace instead.

Incidents like these explain why France has emerged as ‘new Russia’ for India. The current Macron-Modi friendship is beyond their personal chemistry. France has maintained a neutral and independent policy towards India and didn’t followed USA led policies despite being part of NATO. Under these circumstances, defence deals and geo-strategic cooperation is bound to emerge. During the recent Mumbai meet, PM Modi and President Macron's talks focused on key areas including defence, advanced technology, trade, clean energy, global strategic collaboration and joint inauguration of the India–France Year of Innovation 2026. The leaders also discussed cooperation in defence manufacturing, civil nuclear energy, space exploration, climate action, clean energy solutions and artificial intelligence.
