Did Congress ever do any surgical strike against Pakistan during the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government's rule?

Congress Punjab MP and ex-CM Charanjit Singh Channi has made a controversial statement, which has again re-created the old controversy where opposition leaders demanded proof of Balakot IAF surgical strike 2019. In the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack, Channi in the CWC meet, questioned the government and said, "The government had made claims about surgical strikes, but where is the evidence? I have been asking this question for a long time, and even today my question is the same—where is the evidence?" Channi also questioned India's current diplomatic strategy with Pakistan in his statement. He said, "What did we get by sending Pakistani citizens back? The Attari border is already sealed. It is not possible to stop the Indus Water Treaty, so how will our wounds heal?" This statement has come at a time when there is outrage across the country over the Pahalgam attack, and the government is facing demands for strict action against Pakistan.

The Modi government claims Indian Air Force (IAF) submitted a dossier to the government containing satellite imagery and synthetic aperture radar imagery as proof of the Balakot airstrike. These images, collected from an intelligence aircraft, demonstrate the strike's impact on a Jaish-e-Mohammed training camp, showing that 80% of the bombs hit their intended targets and caused internal damage. While the IAF has not released video footage, the images are intended to provide evidence of the strike's effectiveness. This sensitive document has not been made public. One can hope that this will get declassified after 50 years.

The million dollar question is why congress leaders avoided taking a strict actions against Pakistan sponsored terr0rism despite India’s suffering since 1980s? The answer is vote bank politics.

Ex-USA President Barack Obama, in his book ‘A Promised Land’ writes that, at the time of 26/11 Mumbai terr0r attack 2008, we estimated that India will attack Pakistan in some form. When I became the President 3 months later, I talked to Manmohan Singh about this and he said that "If we attack, anti-Muslim sentiment will be created and BJP will benefit in the Lok Sabha elections after 3-4 months." First of all, if there is an India-Pakistan limited war, how will it create anti-Muslim sentiment? Also, there is a risk that limited war may get escalated into something bigger. Hence congress played safe.

If we look at the events of that time, immediately after the attack, Congress had blamed Hindus for this through Digvijay Singh. Congress ‘youth icon’ Rahul Gandhi enjoyed night party at Delhi farmhouses. PM Dr. Manmohan Singh went to USA to complain about Pakistan and subsequently large number of dossiars were sent to Pakistan as ‘proof’ of Pakistani involvement in 26/11 Mumbai terr0r attack. Manish Tiwari, who was the Union Minister at that time, also accepted later that yes, we did not respond to Pakistan when Dr. Manmohan Singh government should have responded.

It is congress who understands that its core vote bank Musl!ms will stand on Pakistan's side and hence adjust its foreign policy based on that. EAM S Jaishankar has said this many times that congress era pro-Palestine policy was based on internal vote bank. Anti-Muslim sentiment could not even be created because the media was under the control of congress and leftists. After that, congress won the 2009 general elections despite no actions regarding 26/11 terr0r attack.

It is important to know all this so that you can understand the current situation. Congress party never celebrated ‘Vijay Diwas’ Kargil war 1999 victory because they considered it as ‘BJP’s war against Pakistan and not India’s war against Pakistan. This is because congress thinks Kargil war which continued for nearly six months and people saw daily coverage of the war events in tv and media, helped BJP with the post Kargil 1999 general election in a big way. Similarly, Balakot IAF strike helped BJP with 2019 general election in a big way. Congress party in 2003 came up with a fake narrative of ‘Kargil coffin scam’ to malign PM AB Vajpayee. As congress won 2004 general election, CBI and entire government mechanism was deployed to highlight Kargil coffin scam and Gujarat CM Narendra Modi’s role in 2002 Gujarat riots. Within few years, Kargil coffin scam case was closed they CBI didn’t get any proof this scam. So, the bottom line is clear –

• Congress is no longer a nationalist party. They fear nationalism will upset their core Musl!m voters and will benefit rival BJP politically. It is better to promote secularism, bhaichara and appeasement using tax payer’s money to win elections. Congress is becoming Musl!m League of 21st century with a strong pro-communist tilt.

• Congress no longer has Indira Gandhi type strong leader and current congress leadership no longer consider Pakistan and China as ‘hostile’ country. Large number of congress leaders visit Pakistan often to promote bhaichara and UPA era (2004-2014) saw floods of Pakistani artists, film stars, comedians, cricketer and ex-cricketers etc. came to India to make money. Later they all abused India.

• Congress will continue to oppose any surgical strikes against Pakistan as this will benefit BJP politically. Congress leaders are power hungry chancha of the family. They want power so that they can do corruption. National interest is irreverent for them!

• Congress strongly discourages empowerment for armed forces, modern weapons for the armed forces as this may led to ‘muscular nationalism’ which will benefit rival BJP. BJP on the other hand promote patriotism, nationalism and have courage to take hard decisions for national interests.

• After the post Pahelgam terr0r attack, congress party asked the government to take opposition into the confidence as discuss their counter-measure plans. Since congress cannot be trusted, Modi government declared that ‘government has given full power to armed forces to take counter-measures against Pahelgam attack, as per their timing, location and method’.
