Why is Narendra Modi not following Vajpayee's footsteps?
On 25 March 2023, PM Modi inaugurated Bengaluru’s Whitefield-Krishnarajapura section of Namma Metro and he purchased a ticket to travel in it. He also purchased metro ticket while inaugurating Pune, Nagpur, Kanpur, Noida (Delhi Metro Magenta line from Botanical Garden to Okhla Bird Sanctuary in Noida) Metro etc. As a PM he need not to purchase a ticket but he does every time as PM Vajapyee did the same while inaugurating India’s second Metro – Delhi Metro in 2002.

PM Vajpayee promoted Delhi metro to avoid Delhi’s chaotic traffic and Modi is doing the same. He is sometime seen in Delhi Metro airport line to avoid traffic and also used Metro taking South Korean President and Australian PM with him. While inaugurating Magenta line on Vajpayee’s birthday 25th December 2017, Modi said ‘on December 24, 2002 then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee took a ride on the metro and it was a historic moment. Since then, the Metro network in NCR has expanded considerably.’

So, who says Modi is not following Vajpayee’s footsteps. Have you seen any congress, SP, BSP or RJD politicians pay for ticket during inauguration? They don’t even pay highway toll tax and threaten or beat toll employees.
Not just Delhi Metro but Metro lines expanded in other cities also during Modi era from 4 cities and total length of 258 km in May 2014 to 13 cities and total length of 680 km in Oct 2020.
