To answer this, one has to understand what constitutes a Bengalee pride and what don’t. These constitutes Bengalee pride. 1. City of Calcutta and some of its iconic landmarks like Howrah bridge, Victoria Memorial, Shaheed Minar etc. Many Bengalee homes will have photo of them as they are proud of them. 2. Darjeeling Tea 3. Politics – People of Bengal are proud of their ‘son-of-soil’ local politicians who promote ‘rebel politics’ which is leftist/communist/maoist in nature and blame federal/central/Delhi government always rather than doing welfare of the state. 4. Rossogolla and various other sweets like Sandesh, Malpoa etc. West Bengal state government can fight a bitter war with Orissa for GI tag of Rossogolla. Sitabhog and Mihidana from city Burdwan and Joynagarer Moa from Joynagar also got GI tag. Now Bengal is trying ‘Sarbhaja’ and ‘Sarpuria’ sweets of Krishnanagar to get GI tags because Bengalees are proud of their sweets. They also consider Bengal as sweetest part of India....
