Do people hate Jawaharlal Nehru? Do people love Atal Bihari Vajpayee more than him?

In 1998, AB Vajapyee of BJP was PM and AIADMK was a part of NDA and the alliance swept Tamil Nadu Lok Sabha seats in the general election. However, things became sour when Jayalalitha tried to force Vajpayee into dismissing the state government ruled by rival Karunanidhi of DMK. An angry Jayalalitha quit NDA and withdrew support when Vajpayee refused. In the subsequent parliament voting Vajpayee government lost majority by one vote and resigned in April 1999. He just refused to topple an elected state government for political reason.

Compare this with PM Nehru whom congress leaders give credit for the success of Indian democracy (despite many known flaws). Nehru government was the first to dismiss an elected state government on political ground. Nehru dismissed communist government of Kerala in 1959 by imposing President’s Rule. This action caused friction between him and his son-in-law Feroze Gandhi.

Recently BJP Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said in Rajya Sabha, "...Majrooh Sultanpuri and Balraj Sahni were both jailed in 1949. During one of the meetings organized for the mill workers in 1949, Majrooh Sultanpuri recited a poem that was written against Jawaharlal Nehru and therefore he had to go to jail. He refused to tender an apology for the same and was jailed...congress's record of curtailing freedom of speech didn't confine it to these two people. "Nehru", a political biography which was written by Michael Edwards in 1975 was banned. They banned also a film called "Kissa Kursi Ka" just because it questioned Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and her son...". “...The congress party brazenly kept amending the constitution to help the family and dynasty... These amendments were not to strengthen democracy but to protect those in power, the process was used to strengthen the family."

'First interim govt came up with a Constitutional amendment to curb the freedom of speech,' says FM Sitharaman. In Rajya Sabha, Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman says, "...The Supreme Court in 1950 had ruled in favour of the Communist magazine "Cross Roads" and the RSS organisational magazine "Organizer". But in response, the (then) interim government thought that there was a need for a first Constitutional amendment and that was brought in by the INC and it was essentially to curb the freedom. So India, a democratic country which prides itself even today about freedom of expression saw the first interim government coming up with a Constitutional amendment which was to curb the freedom of speech of Indians and that within one year of adoption of the Constitution...". Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman slammed congress for making various amendments to the Constitution. Here are the key things she said against congress:

• Congress' process to alter preamble invalid.

• Amendments were not about strengthening democracy but protecting those in power. The process is used for strengthening the family.

• 21 MPs belonging to all opposition parties were jailed.

PM Nehru started the trend of toppling elected state government using President’s Rule
