Did Narendra Modi promise to make India a $5 trillion economy by 2024, while it currently sits at an IMF-projected $2.94 trillion for 2019, and growth slumped to a six-year low of about five percent earlier this year?

Indians disappointed at World Cup Cricket loss can cheer up on economy.

In August 2020, Indian PM Modi made a target for the government to achieve $ 5 Trillion economy by end of 2024 (December 2024). Indian leftist, communist, urban naxals, librandµs laughed at Modi’s pipe-dream and called it ‘Mungeri Lal ke haseen sapne’ (wet dreams of Mungeri Lal). This is because Covid-19 was going on and Modi also asked people to light up lamp, clap and beat thali (taali and thali) to ward off Covid-19! Modi has been talking about $ 5 Trillion economy since 2019.

Indian librandµs love to mock right wingers, religious (only Hindu religion) people and political opponents BJP and hence they heavily abused PM Modi’s thali and taali scheme. All leftist, communist, ‘intellectual’ and ‘Harvard’ educated economists like Raghuram Rajan, Kaushik Basu and P Chidambaram started mocking PM Modi on $ 5 Trillion economy dream. Kaushik Basu said $ 5 Trillion will happen by 2033.

Fast forward to 19 November 2023 and there are reports in media that Indian economy crossed $ 4 Trillion. This also means Indian still has 13 months available to add another $ 1 Trillion to make it $ 5 Trillion by December 2024. Some eminent industrialists have lauded this feat. The data is not official and government clarity may come soon. Even if the actual figure is slightly less than $ 4 Trillion, the current government proved that they turned Covid-19 crisis to an opportunity. They can also set lofty goals and made sincere effort to achieve that goal.
