Why is there no memorial of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose in India?

Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose memorial exists in Cuttack which is his birth place and also his father’s house in Kolkata’s Elgin Road has been converted into a mini memorial.

PM Modi virtually inaugurated a model of a proposed memorial dedicated to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose in Andaman and Nicobar Islands on 23 January 2023 to commemorate his 126th birth anniversary. The memorial will be set up on Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Dweep which was known as Ross Island before 2018. The memorial will have a museum, a cable car ropeway, a laser-and-sound show, a guided heritage trail through historical buildings, and a theme-based children’s amusement park, as per officials. Modi also named 21 islands of Andaman and Nicobar after Param Vir Chakra awardees. All these will add tourism attraction to Andaman Islands.

This action proves that there are certain benefits if the national leader comes from ordinary family without any strong dynasty background. PM Modi has no relatives in politics and so he honours true national heroes. He has no immediate family to talk to and hence speak ‘mann ki baat’ on radio programmes.

On the other hand, dynastic political parties try to glorify their family for political reasons. Congress is way ahead of other smaller regional dynastic parties in this manner. Delhi has Nehru Place, Nehru Enclave, Nehru Nagar, Nehru market, Nehru Planetarium, Nehru Park, Nehru Garden, Nehru Stadium, Nehru University (JNU), Jawaharlal Nehru Marg, various Nehru institutes, Nehru Engineering and Medical colleges etc. Same is the case with other Indian cities and other dynastic names. Every social media is full of these names which will be 20-30 pages long. This makes political party less on ideology and more on personality cult. Congress party also failed to rename British names like Ross Island, Havelock Island, Campbell Island etc. in Andamans Islands. This is because Nehru considered himself Muslim by faith, English by education and only Hindu by birth. Modi government should rename the southern most point of India called Indira Point (after Indira Gandhi) in Andaman Islands as Netaji Point. This will scare Chinese PLA Navy in critical Malacca Strait choke point.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday virtually unveiled the model of a proposed memorial dedicated to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, to be set up in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and said it will infuse feelings of patriotism among people. Modi, on the occasion of Netaji’s 126th birth anniversary, also named 21 islands of the Union Territory after Param Vir Chakra awardees. He noted that the islands will be a source of inspiration for generations to come.
