What is the Indian Army's record for rescuing people from floods in the state of Jammu and Kashmir?

The day was Saturday 14 January 2023. On one side the country was preparing to celebrate Makar Sankranti while on the other side the workers of Megha Engineering Industry Limited were working on the Zozhila tunnel. Around 5:40 pm in the evening, a sudden twin avalanche occurred and as many as 172 workers were trapped there. They lost touch with the whole world. Just two days before that, another avalanche stuck the same area and two labourers working under Megha Engineering died on the spot. Tunnel construction world was temporarily halted due to repeated avalanches this January 2023 after Saturday incident.

The avalanche on Saturday was so fierce that there was no way out. Realizing the seriousness of the situation and the responsibility for the lives of as many as 172 people, the project engineer of Megha Engineering Industry Limited immediately contacted the Indian Army. Considering the magnitude of the incident, the Indian Army immediately dispatched a contingent of trained soldiers. In that dire situation, they found those 172 people from the snow in the darkness of night, risking their lives. Calming them down, the Indian Army assured them that they would not compromise their duty of 'Seva Paramo Dharma'. As the sun rose on January 15, the Assam Rifles Regiment of the Indian Army undertook a war-level mission to rescue the trapped workers. The Indian Army dispatched trained special commandos, weapons and trained dogs for this mission who are used to such environment. Apart from that, a medical team was sent to take care of the health of the trapped people. The Indian Army safely rescued all 172 workers from that dire situation without a scratch. This is why Armed forces are considered most respectable and honest profession which gives people peace of mind when they go to sleep.

Most newspapers failed to cover this news and only few reported. Those reported the event covered it as the army rescued ‘stranded’ workers! The India media works only when there is a sensational news, large human casualty or event which has political reparations. One ex-Army general called them ‘presstitute’ as they are one of the most corrupt professions in India today. All media and newspapers are filled with stories of Kejriwal versus Modi, Kejriwal versus Delhi L-G, Sisodia versus ED etc. as Kejriwal is providing crores of advertisement to media houses.

The Indian Army carried out a rescue operation after a strong avalanche struck the workshop area of Megha Engineering and Industry Limited near Sarbal village in Sonamarg in Jammu and Kashmir's Ganserbal district. All 172 workers of the company stranded in the avalanched were rescued.
