What did India gain from G-20 summit? Was it better that than the last summit?

Publicity and international centre-stage in global affairs. India for the first time gets G-20 presidency and will host the event in India’s J&K and Ladakh UT which may dismay Pakistan and China.

During Nehru era, Soviet Union was true friend – they helped build Indian heavy industry, supplied highly subsidised defence equipment’s, technology transfer, no defence purchase scams, always international support available for Kashmir issue and physical presence available in 1971 Indo-Pak war victory. Modi once said in Russia – ‘one old reliable friend is better than two new friends. India now supporting old friend Russia despite massive western pressure.

During Modi era, France is the true friend – didn’t impose sanction after 1998 nuclear explosion, UN resolutions support, reliable partner, no economic or defence technology sanctions. The only problem is western and French defence technology are far superior (than Russian) and also costly.

France is the new Russia / Soviet Union

India wants to be a leader in G-20 as this group controls 80% of global wealth

Nehru wanted to be a leader of third world newly independent country and formed ‘Non-Aligned movement’ (NAM) with leaders of Egypt and Yugoslavia. Subsequent congress PM like Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi proudly maintained leadership position within NAM. BJP PM Modi seems to have dumped NAM and became a leader of G-20 which is most powerful economic block along with G-7.

Recent G-20 summit 2022 in Bali, Indonesia is a diplomatic success for India. The G-20 leaders endorsed PM Modi’s message to Russian President Putin at the SCO Summit in Uzbekistan in September 2022 that ‘this is not time for war’. In a joint declaration adopted at the end of their two-day summit in Bali, the G-20 leaders observed that the use or threat of use of nuclear weapons was inadmissible. The peaceful resolution of conflicts, efforts to address crises, as well as diplomacy and dialogue, were vital. The ‘Bali Declaration’ said the war in Ukraine has adversely impacted the global economy, caused immense human suffering and exacerbated existing fragilities in the global economy constraining growth, increasing inflation, disrupting supply chains, heightening energy and food insecurity, and elevating financial stability risks.

Moral of the story – ‘Modi hai toh mumkin hai’.

Moral of the story for Indian left librandµs – ‘Modi is fascist. Petrol cost is Rs 95 now. Modi must resign’.
