What is Sanjauli Shimla mosque Waqf Controversy?

Himachal Pradesh is simmering with tension of land jehad. After the prolong agitation against Shimla’s illegal Sanjauli mosque, owners agreed to be partially demolished the illegal structure themselves. The focus has now shifted to other illegal mosques in Mandi, Kullu and Solan city. In Mandi, members of the Muslim community voluntarily demolished an unauthorised portion of a mosque on Jail Road after notices from the Public Works Department (PWD) and the Municipal Corporation.

In Hamirpur the Forest Department on 16 September 2024 demolished the newly built structure of a shrine named Lakhdata Peer in forest of Shastri area. The controversy over the construction work of this shrine on forest land arose when someone posted pictures of the site on social media in the morning, which caused resentment among the Hindu community and increased tension. The administration has taken control of the situation. This action can be considered prompt but the state government is congress which always supported these type of illegal construction by one community to promote land jehead and demography change.

Understanding the seriousness of the situation on this matter, the local district administration intervened immediately and directed the Forest Department to take appropriate action. After the order of the administration, forest officials reached the spot and demolished the illegal wall being built there. A spokesperson of the Forest Department said that the department will demarcate the concerned land.

Hamirpur is the home district of Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu. Officials said that while taking action to remove the wall, the local authorities had informed him about the situation. The official spokesperson has confirmed that the situation in Hamirpur district and city is now under control. Any kind of disturbance will not be tolerated here.

The problem started with Sanjouli mosque in Shima in early September 2024. HP rural development minister and congress leader Anirudh Singh blamed the mosque for the trouble. Speaking the assembly, Singh demanded an investigation into the construction of Shimla's of ‘illegal’ Sanjauli Masjid. He faced protests from MLAs of his own party as this is not the way congress leaders oppose illegal works of their vote bank community. Subsequently, another senior minister Vikramaditya Singh also said similar things. It seems nobody in HP congress supporting the illegal activities of the ‘peaceful community’ anymore. This have understood how one community is changing the demography of the state.

Why this controversy now? Article 118 of the Himachal Pradesh Land Revenue Act states that a non-agriculturist cannot purchase land in Himachal Pradesh in any way, including by sale, gift, will, exchange, lease, mortgage, or tenancy. This applies even if the transfer is made by a civil court decree or to recover land revenue arrears. So, it is extremely difficult for people outside the state to buy land to build a house or a hotel. When Hindus and Sikhs from outside the state struggle to buy land in HP, one particular community which is congress vote bank since Nehru era is easily getting land, building houses and mosque, now have overwhelm dominance in street vendor business in cities.

This is simple congress corruption where politicians take money to bend the rules. Congress leader Priyanka Vadra’s recently constructed house is also a violation of Article 118 of the Himachal Pradesh Land Revenue Act because she is not native of HP. Behind every problem in India, one can see congress’s hand and Nehruvian appeasement policy.

HP CM Sukhu is facing financial bankruptcy and this is another problem for the HP government. Now droughts have been raised if this government can complete the 5 year term!
