Why does Rahul Gandhi carries tags of part-time and reluctant politician?

Image
Congress leader RaGa on his first visit to his ex-constituency Wayanad after losing the MP tag in March 2023 said that ‘MP is just a tag. It’s a position, it’s a post. The BJP can take away the tag, the position, the house, or they can put me in jail. But they cannot stop me from representing the people of Wayanad. They think that they will scare me by sending the police to my house. They think by taking away my house I will be disturbed. My sister didn't tell you but I was happy they took my house. It was not interesting for me to live in that house. How do I know what I am doing is correct? I know if the BJP is taking away my house, disqualifying me as an MP, attacking me 24 hours, I know I am doing something right. Rahul Gandhi seems to be satisfied with his work (or lack of it). The disqualification followed a conviction by the Surat court, which sentenced Gandhi with two-year imprisonment, on the accusation of defaming the Modi surname. Then he was hit a great idea called ‘yat...

What do you remember about the Bhopal gas tragedy in 1984?

Image
Indian Airlines pilot Rajiv Gandhi who had no political experience was made PM after tragic death of her mother, PM Indira Gandhi. The 1984 general election saw congress party winning record 400 plus Lok Sabha seats due to sympathy wave generated due to assassinated of Indira Gandhi. But 5 years later, rival VP Singh government formed a coalition government, defeating congress. What went wrong for Rajiv Gandhi? Rajiv Gandhi era saw some big political blunders. These are – Bofors defence deal (scam), Shah Bano Supreme Court judgement reversal (Muslim appeasement), handling Bhopal gas tragedy victims and allowing Union Carbide (now Dow Jones) former chairman Warren Anderson to escape (nepotism). Accidents may happen due to criminal neglect or human error. But Bhopal gas tragedy was a huge tragedy and world’s worst industrial accident till date. It has huge human casualty immediately and also for decades to come as future generation kids born much later also had deformities by birth. Imme...

What do you make of the Trinamool Congress' claim that West Bengal and Bihar are not the same, and that Mamata Banerjee will return to power for the fourth time in 2026?

Image
Bihar and Bengal state are not the same is partially correct and it will be a big challenge for the BJP to win Bengal assembly in 2026. A Bihar assembly 2025 type sweep is simple not possible because of multiple reasons. There is no Nitish Kumar in Bengal, no strong presence of RSS at the grass root level in Bengal, no strong Bengali BJP leader in Bengal most BJP leaders were TMC turncoats. Also caste factors do not work in Bengal as they work in Bihar. Muslim population is more in Bengal than Bihar who never vote for BJP. All these things make BJP’s job difficult, if not impossible in 2026. Mamata Banerjee know how to play emotional card ‘Bengali identity card’ to defame ‘north Indian’ BJP. Without doing economic development, she can still win the Bengal election on Bengali sub-nationalism and regional cultural autonomy to appease the ‘intellectually superior’ leftist leaning Bengali Hindu majority voters. But the SIR and the Bihar election sweep for the BJP is giving nightmares to th...

Is Rahul Gandhi a big win in Bihar?

Image
BJP/NDA clinched a massive Bihar assembly 2025 victory by winning 202 seats as INDI Alliance or Mhagathbandhan's seat tally reduced to just 35. Out of this 35, congress managed to get only 6 seats. Now post-election analysis in congress has begun. Majority of the congress candidates have held the view that the party would have done better had there not been an alliance with RJD. This was stated by senior party leader Shakeel Ahmed Khan. NDA's 'jungle raj' narrative, impacted the performance of the RJD alliance partners. It has been seen multiple times that weak congress that forms an alliance with a regional party, end up harming itself. But the other way around is equally undesirable for the congress – anti-BJP/NDA parties fighting election separately means division of opposition votes. So, it is a catch-22 situation for the congress with no clear way out. Congress leader RaGa was well aware of this situation. Due to inadequate seat allocation to congress by the region...

Why is the Shah Bano case so important?

Image
PM Rajiv Gandhi won 400+ seats in 1984 general election due to Indira Gandhi assassination linked sympathy wave. Since then, congress has never won a majority on its own. This is because they sacrificed principles of democracy, gender justice and secularism for political gain called Muslim appeasement. This appeasement policy started by PM Jawaharlal Nehru immediately after independence when there was no challenger to leadership of Nehru and congress party. Also Muslim population percent was low compared to now. Still entire Nehru-Gandhi dynasts followed Muslim appeasement policy, pro-Arab and Pakistan policy, pro-Palestine policy. All these indicate that congress has always been a Muslim focused party and taken majority Hindu population from grated. For decades, there was no alternative for congress but rise of rival BJP in 1990s is partly linked to disastrous Shah Bano Supreme Court judgement reversal by Rajiv Gandhi government using the back door. To appease Islamist or jeh@di relig...
