Why is so much openly 'Vote Chori' in India?

A criminal complaint has been filled in the Rouse Avenue Court, New Delhi, against former congress president Sonia Gandhi, alleging that she forced documents to obtain Indian voter status before acquiring Indian citizenship. The complaint, moved by advocate Vikas Tripathi, seeks an enquiry into how Sonia Gandhi was able to cast her vote even before she became a citizen of India in April 1983. This happened after congress leader RaGa repeatedly raised ‘vote chori’ allegations in front of media regarding last Maharashtra, Haryana and upcoming Bihar November 2025 election.

Sonia Gandhi started vote chori before becoming Indian citizen!

Sonia Gandhi birthday 9th December is celebrated internationally as ‘anti-corruption day’!

Now the local Delhi court has issued a notice to Sonia Gandhi over alleged ‘vote chori’ in 1980 as an Italian citizen. This notice came when she was celebrating her 79th birthday. When Priyanka Vadra was questioned on this ‘vote chori’ by reporters outside the Parliament, she said her mother is now 80 year old lady who should not be disturbed!

Inside the Parliament, home minister Amit Shah made a long statement exposing the Haryana election vote chori narrative of the congress. He dismissed allegations of manipulation as baseless and accused RaGa of attempting to undermine public confidence in democratic institutions. He detailed procedural safeguards, historical precedents and legal frameworks to assert that India's electoral architecture remains secure and transparent. He took a jibe at the Congress leader's ‘nuclear bomb’ press conference and pointed out the anomalies in his allegations. He cited RaGa's claim of more than 500 voters being shown on Haryana's voter list to be from the same residential address. HM Shah gave reference to the Election Commission of India (ECI), having clarified that the residence ‘House No. 265’ is spread over a one-acre ancestral plot, housing several families in separate dwellings. In this case, separate numbers had not been allotted to individual houses. There could be three generations of family members living in a house, referring to the EC poll body's clarification, then adding, ‘they would have exercised their franchise even in congress's regime in Haryana’.

Incidentally, this so called ‘nuclear bomb’ press conference by RaGa was on 5th November 2025, just a day before Bihar first phase election to create maximum noise and sympathy. He was probably aware that they are going to lose Bihar badly.

RaGa’s counter bombshell by Amit Shah stunned the opposition with his claim that a voter from Bihar had been forced by the congress party to share false statements over voter list anomalies. Amit Shah also cited how congress leaders themselves had resorted to ‘vote chori’. He referred to first vote chori by congress when the mandate from regional chiefs to decide who should be the Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru got two votes to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's 28ut the final result is known to everybody.

This is a real case of vote chori in Haryana…

When assembly elections were held in Haryana in 1982, Bhajan Lal led congress was in a weak position. Lok Dal had formed a pre-poll alliance with BJP. Congress got 35 seats and the Lok Dal–BJP alliance got 37 seats (31 Lok Dal and 6 BJP). Chaudhary Devi Lal gathered support from 6 independents, 3 Congress (J), and 1 Janata Dal MLA and took his MLAs to hide in Shivalik Hotel in Parwanoo. Akali leader Parkash Singh Badal was a close friend of Devi Lal and hundreds of his Nihang supporters, holding naked swords in their hands, were guarding outside the hotel.

The Governor of Haryana at that time was G.D. Tapase. Tapase told Devi Lal to parade his MLAs, saying, ‘I will talk to each of them in private’. Tau Devi Lal took his MLAs into a bus and went towards the Raj Bhavan. All the MLAs were made to sit in a hall. They waited for two hours, but the Governor never came out.

Something else was happening inside. Inside, Bhajan Lal was sitting with the Governor. Then the Governor started meeting the MLAs one by one and bargained with 11 Dalit MLAs, getting them to sign letters of support in favour of Congress. After that, in a room inside, Bhajan Lal was given the oath of office and secrecy. He was given 15 days to prove his majority on the floor of the House. After taking the oath and becoming CM, Bhajan Lal left the Raj Bhavan from the back door. When Devi Lal, who was sitting in the hall outside, came to know about this, there was chaos. Devi Lal and the BJP MLAs and leaders with him physically grabbed the Governor by the collar. Some even say that Tau Devi Lal slapped Tapase four times. The Governor was barely saved by his security personnel.

This is not an isolated case. The congress party had notorious loyal Governors like Romesh Bhandari, Buta Singh etc. who can sack non-congress elected state government when instructed by the congress high command. Entire 1970s and 1980s the post of Governor was misused by the congress high command.
