Kolkata is a much bigger city than Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, but there are no non-stop flights from Kolkata to Europe and America! Does it fall under the anti-Bengali program of the BJP government?

Kolkata/Calcutta airport which started in early 1900 is another example of decay as overall Bengal economy that stagnated during communist rule. Most international players like KLM, Aeroflot, SAS, Swissair, Lufthansa, PanAm (now shut), Japan Airlines, British Airways, Cathey Pacific, Alitalia, Quantas etc. shifted to other main cities like New Delhi and Bombay (Mumbai) and much smaller and newer airports from Kerala, Bangalore, Hydrabad, Amritsar etc. stared clocking higher international traffic. Till 1970, Calclutta airport was the busiest in India. People of Bengal have developed a habit of blaming government in Delhi for all their problems. It is true that in Nehru era, some economic blunders were made like freight equalisation policy, mishandling of east Pakistan refugee waves, for which Bengal and Bihar suffered. Now they will blame BJP as they are in power without looking at  labour militantism is the main reason for downfall of all economic and industrial activity in Bengal . Th

Why is communism called a failed ideology?

Zahir Shah was last king of Afghanistan who ruled from 1933 to 1973. He was replaced by his cousin Daud Khan in a bloodless coup and became Prime Minister. Daud Khan had support of PDPA (People’s Democratic Party of Afghanistan) which was a Marxist-Leninist ideology party influenced by neighbor Soviet Union and established in 1965. in 1978, PDPA came to power by a military coup and in 1990, under President Najibullah, PDPA name changed to Homeland Party. Najibullah and his communist regime was a puppet of Soviet Union. USA-USSR super power rivalry started as USA was alarmed with spread of communism in Afghanistan and possibly further into south Asia and invested huge money to arm the rebels or warlords. Pakistan sencing opportunity also jumped in and diverted huge amount of weapons destined for Afghan rebels. USA glamorized jeh@di culture by making big ticket Hollywood movies by superstar Sylvester Stallone fighting against USSR. The decade long war in Afghanistan weakened USSR finance

What have the communists done for West Bengal during their 34 years rule?

On 25th May, 2014, Hindustan Motors announced that they will be suspending the production of Ambassador cars in India from its Bengal based factory. Based on Britain’s Morris Oxford series of cars by the Morris Motors, Ambassador was the first car to be produced in India. It started production in 1958, and for a long time was the only car to be sold in India. Since 1958 Ambassador car was a status symbol and enjoyed a near monopoly till 1980s. By 1980s, Maruti 800 started taking market share for passenger car and taxi. So, what went wrong for Hindustan Motors (HM). There was multiple issue for the decline. Despite having great market share and profits, HM failed to invest in new technology like engine and other parts. If we compare with another western iconic bike maker Royal Enfield (RE), who started early in India and also enjoyed market monopoly but constantly innovated the products, improved various technology, the problems of HM will become clear. A major difference between HM and

Where did West Bengal go wrong?

Communism destroyed Bengal. Bengal was the forefront of all human endeavors till 1960’s like art, music, science, education, industry, trade, technology etc. Till mid-1960s, Calcutta airport was busiest in India and now its not in top 10! Communism saw exit of industry, educated skilled manpower from the state, brought poverty and lazy culture and a 24x7 dharna culture. Mother Teresa was doing selfless service to mankind from her charity organisation based at Calcutta (now Kolkata) for decades before she was given Noble peace prize in 1979. After getting Noble prize, her organization became globally famous and charity money started pouring in from across the globe. Lot of Europeans and Americans came to Calcutta to observe her charity organization and contribute with money and material support. Some people called it ‘poverty tourism’. Calcutta under communist rule that time and was passing through its worst phase in 1980’s. Poverty was omni-present even in metro city like Calcutta due

Why is Mamata Banerjee still supported by the Bengalis?

If Kejriwal government of Delhi and congress leader Rahul Gandhi can be a source of entertainment for many, then why not TMC government of Mamata Banerjee. In an hour-long speech sometime back, she paid homage to ‘Vishnu Mata’ which amused many people. At another event, she said Sita is mother of Lord Rama and a child needs to be at least 1500 kilo. Most of the people outside Bengal may not be aware of these faux-pass by Mamata Banerjee but they are as entertaining as Rahul Gandhi’s faux-passes and Kejriwal stunts. Then there was derogatory comment by MP Kalyan Banerjee on Sita Mata. Some people claimed that this was deliberately done to appease libr@ndus and ‘peaceful community’. Kalyan Banerjee also said governor is a mad dog while MP Mahua Moitra taunted governor as’uncleji’. A female MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar made abusive comment on a high-profile rape case in posh Park Street of Kolkata by saying ‘rapes are nothing but sex deal gone wrong’. By saying this she might be trying reduce
