What is the significance of 12 Maoists with a bounty of ₹46 lakh surrendering in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district?

Large number of Maioists have surrendered or got killed in recent years. The surrendered Maoists were mostly rehabilitated by the state governments. This encouraged more Maoists to surrender and start a normal life. The central government is claiming that naxalite menace will be eliminated by year 2026. This means a big problem which persisted since independence, will get eliminated soon. Always remember that UPA PM Dr. Manmohan Singh said that ‘naxalite violence menace is the biggest internal security threat for India’. India’s overall threat is often called ‘two-and-half front war’. In this, the ‘half front’ consists of naxalites, urban naxalites and the Islamists. Modi government is trying to get rid of all three menace.

The significance of this change means some Indians are celebrating their democratic freedom for the first time after living under Maoist terror rule for decades.
