What are the less known or mind blowing facts about Subhash Chandra bose?
Only handful of people knows much about this place which is linked with freedom fighter Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. Almost everyone knows about Netaji's house was on Elgin Road, Bhawanipore, central Kolkata. But this is not the original home of Netaji's family and this house was built by his father Janakinath Bose. His father was a successful lawyer and built a big house in Cuttack, Odisha where Subhash Chandra Bose was born. Both Cuttack and Elgin Road house has been turned into museums. Netaji's original home was in a village called Kodalia - very close to Sonarpur outside Kolkata. Netaji's grandfather Harnath Bose built this house. Netaji's father Janakinath Bose was born in this house in 1860. He spent his working life in Cuttack, but every year Janakinath would come to Kodalia during Durga Puja to attend their family's many years-old puja. Netaji would also spend Durga pujas at his original home during childhood and also came here on various vacations while he was studying in college in Kolkata.
However, the tragic part of this story poor condition of this house. The signs of neglect everywhere. Netaji's ancestral house does not even have electric light. This part of the house has been acquired by the state government. But the maintenance is not good. The state government is bankrupt after nearly five decades of communist and naxalite rule of Jyoti Basu and Mamata Banerjee. The current state government neglects 100s of historic building linked with eminent people of the past due to lack of money. The government spends money on vote catching freebie schemes like kanyashree (cash to school girls), rupashree (one time marriage allowance to girls), yuvashree (unemployment allowance), lakshmir bhandar (cash to ladies) and annual cash amounting to lakh of rupee to Durga Puja clubs. The unemployed youths of these various clubs acts as B team (read goons) of TMC during the elections.
On the other hand, state tourism department does not promote this place was Netaji Subhash Bose’s ancestral house. The caretaker may turn you back on any random day. It is open only three days a year. January 23, January 26 and August 15. Only if you have special political connection, you can you enter on other days. If a museum is built here, many people will come to see it. It is very convenient to come from Kolkata. The next station after Sonarpur in the sub-urban rail line is Subhashgram is the rail station. To rach the rouse, it takes ten minutes by auto or toto (e-rick). The original house is spread over a huge area - ten kathas. Netaji lived on the second floor at the back. Go up the narrow staircase of the old era and Netaji's room is on the right. There is a bed and few basic furniture there.
Why people don’t know about this house of Netaji? This is because Nehru and successive communist and congress historians promoted biased history of India and diluted the achievements of Netaji Subhash Bose. Finally it is PM Narendra Modi who is rectifying the distorted history created by the distortians. Subhash Bose was a congressman but congress failed him. This is why PM Modi criticises Jawaharlal Nehru so often.
