Why did Nehru oppose the construction of the Somnath temple?
PM Nehru disliked Hindu temple architecture. There are hardly any historic Hundu temples left in north India due to sustained barbaric Islamic invasions which lasted nearly 800 years. Most of the surviving Hindu temples are in southern India and many of them are considered as architecture marvel and included in UNESCO heritage sites.
PM Nehru repeated many times his belief that Hindu temple repelled him while Mughal architecture are great and inspire him a lot. PM Nehru strongly opposed reconstruction of Somnath temple and his relation with senior congress leaders like President Dr. Rajendra Prasad and home minister Sardar Patel turned sour as they attended Somnath temple re-construction event.
The same way, UPA government (2004-2014) went out of the way to obstruct Lord Ram temple at Ayodhya and refused to attend its reconstruction. There exists an undeclared protocol in congress party that no leaders should visit there. The DNA of congress since Nehru to RaGa is anti-Hindu with objective to make majority Hindus as second class citizens. People realising this only after 2014 and this is not became of Modi/BJP government but because of rise of social media (librandµs call its Whatsapp University as they don’t like it).
