Yogi is the first CM in UP in last 70 years who has been re-elected after successfully completing 5-year term. Since independence, UP was a backward, agriculture-based state with little industry, low social parameters etc. which fits for a ‘bimaru’ state definition. Despite economic backwardness, UP is most important state due to the highest population and MP seats and often PM is selected from this state. Despite this, congress party’s stronghold area like Amerhi, Rai Bareli and Sultanpur lacked economic development. Election victory of PM candidate was more important than economic development here. Two-decade rule by regional players SP and BSP alternatively didn’t improve UP’s economic status. Instead, high corruption made the state as ‘ulta pradesh’. Why blame Yogi for past inefficiencies? John Bolton, who was USA’s national security advisor during Donald Trump era and recently claimed that he had helped organize coups in other countries. He cited a failed 2019 Venezuelan coup attempt against President Nicolás Maduro to a media interview. Chinese CPC leadership thinks this is not unusual. Washington also boasts of its righteousness and legitimacy when it invades foreign countries and plans coups, as it has done with Afghanistan, Iraq, Venezuela, Yugoslavia, and many other countries. But USA at least takes UN mandate before targeting any country. This UN mandate is not possible for other P5 countries like Russia and China, as can be seen during Russian invasion of Ukraine. Mamata Banerjee is undisputed leader of Bengal in absence of strong opposition but there is no positive opinion about her outside Bengal. The recent 2022 state elections proved that. Her ‘khela hobe’ slogan was a winning slogan only in Bengal and other opposition leaders tried replicating it without success. Economic progress in Bengal under her is better than previous disastrous 34 year communist rule and this is what people of Bengal compare to support her.
