Why were the world leaders visiting India very frequently in March-April 2022?

Almost all P5 leaders are meeting Indian PM Modi he has emerged a global hero in last two years. This is because Indian greatly increased vaccine production and distributed to many countries including free across the world as part of ‘vaccine diplomacy’. Even UK PM Boris Johnson confirmed that he used India made Covid-19 vaccine.

The second reason is Modi is the only global leader who spoke to both Russian and Ukrainian Presidents for safe passage of foreigners and other peace initiative during this two month old war. This is time for Modi to claim P5 status in UNSC with veto power which Indian leader Nehru gave it to China.

Meanwhile, Chinese leader is in self-imposed quarantine and not ventured out of his country in last two years. No major leaders met him. China supplied ineffective Covid-19 vaccines in many countries but its major cities like Shanghai and Shenzhen are under prolong lockdown. The Caixin services purchasing managers’ index (PMI) survey begun in November 2005 in China which measures monthly China’s services sector activity. The index hit a record low of 26.5 in February 2020 during the onset of the pandemic Covid-19. Again in 2022, there is a second wave of lockdown in big Chinese cities like Shanghai and Shenzhen. March 2022 PMI index was 42 and April 2022 PMI index is 36.2 which is second lowest since year 2005 indicating sharp contraction in China’s services sector activity for two consecutive months.
