Why was PM Jawaharlal Nehru not a visionary leader?

Image
In 1953, DVC (Damodar Valley Corporation) acquired 41000 acres of tribal land for dam building. 1200 tribals’ lost land and livelihood. Land compensation and jobs were promised to them by Nehru government which never happened. Same is the case of lack of compensation not given to farmers whose land was acquired for Bhakra dam in HP. PM Nehru inaugurated it with lot of fanfare on October 1963 and hailed it as ‘temple of modern India’. ‘This dam has been built with the unrelenting toil of man for the benefit of mankind and therefore is worthy of worship. May you call it a Temple or a Gurdwara or a Mosque, it inspires our admiration and reverence’, Nehru said. On 22 October 2013, the Government of India approved the release of a commemorative stamp to mark the 50th anniversary of the Bhakra Dam. But till today, no compensation for loss of land for farmers. These landless farmers will eventually end up in city slums. Those who criticize Gujarat government’s compensation for farmers displac...

What mistakes did Nehru make during his tenure, that is costing India now?

Nehru created a fundamentalist and ‘peaceful community’ in India with his appeasement policy. In 1955, JP Kriplani criticised PM Nehru in an open parliamentary debate. He even labelled Nehru as ‘Afraid Communal’. Kriplani explained that the Muslim community is ready to abide by Uniform Civil Code but Nehru is appeasing the minority by excluding them and reforming only Hindu society with Hindu Code Bill. The effects can now be seen, learning from that mistake Musl!ms are now not accepting of the proposed uniform civil code (UCC), but eventually it will now be established as indicated by ruling BJP. BJP has made a draft UCC bill at Uttarakhand state and may launch it soon. Hindu society reforms happened with Hindu Marriage Act, 1955, Hindu Succession Act, 1956, Hindu Adoption and Maintenance Act, 1956, and Hindu Minority and Guardianship Act, 1956. Meanwhile Musl!ms got Haj subsidy, Maulana salaries form state, madarsa grants, minority institutions where RTI rules do not work, no law to ...

Why is Nehru supposedly not liked by some Indians?

Nehru had a Red Panda in his backyard visible across his PMO Office which he used to nurture only for the purpose of using it as a distraction, to avoid any discussions with businessmen. For example, whenever JRD Tata visited Nehru's Office to discuss any serious economic policy or provide his inputs on economic revival, Nehru would invariably try to avoid the discussion by looking at the window and divert the topic by asking JRD Tata to have a look at his ‘Cute Panda’!! Today, all these facts might sound so strange or even funny to know that the PM of the world's largest democracy often used the excuse of his cute Panda to avoid serious discussions on economy. But imagine the plight of those nationalist industrialists who were willing to work hard, take risks and were willing to employ lakhs of Indians to boost the economy. Instead of a serious 1-to-1 discussion with Nehru, all they would get was a glimpse of Nehru's Cute Panda. Why should people remember Nehru for his suc...

In Ukraine-Russia war India benefited by Purchasing discounted crude oil from Russia (as there was Sanction on sale of crude oil to western countries) and then sold it to European countries after processing at higher prices. This created heartburn in USA leadership. This also caused heartburn among opposition leaders who thought that Modi benefited politically from Ukraine war as they won Manipur, UP and Gujarat state elections in 2022. Israel earlier handed over captured Gaza areas to Palestine in 2005-2007 and allowed Palestine people to come inside Israel controlled area and work primarily on Construction, domestic and agriculture / water recycle area. But now Israel has declared that Israel will not allow any Palestine people to come and work after 07 October 2023, Hamas attack on innocent, unarmed Israeli civilians. So who is going to benefit? Yes, Modi. As per media, Israel has already planned recruitment of a hundred thousand skilled/ general workers for India. Now 5 Indian stat...

After the successful hosting of 9th Asian Games in 1982 at New Delhi, Indian capital hosted another mega event in March 1983. India invited all global leaders to attend 7th NAM (Non Align Movement) Summit. Since India was the founding member of NAM under PM Nehru, Indian government of Indira Gandhi used this NAM event to be a global event just like recently PM Modi hosted G20 Summit 2023 on September 9-10 in a grand style. Just like recent G20 2023 event by PM Modi at newly revamped Pragati Maidan, elaborate expenses were made to beautify New Delhi in March 1983 which hosted 190 plus country leaders or their senior representatives. Cold war era was at its peak that time and India invited both NATO (western block) and Warsaw pact (Soviet block) countries along with all developing countries. This was an excellent opportunity to show India’s leadership among third world countries and Indira Gandhi completely dominated this global meet. The Vigyan Bhavan main hall was full with 1200 intern...
