In 1953, DVC (Damodar Valley Corporation) acquired 41000 acres of tribal land for dam building. 1200 tribals’ lost land and livelihood. Land compensation and jobs were promised to them by Nehru government which never happened. Same is the case of lack of compensation not given to farmers whose land was acquired for Bhakra dam in HP. After the successful hosting of 9th Asian Games in 1982 at New Delhi, Indian capital hosted another mega event in March 1983. India invited all global leaders to attend 7th NAM (Non Align Movement) Summit.
