Lots of people in India are hyping PM Modi’s recent USA trip in June 2023. Modi was the Indian PM to address US Congress twice, second Indian PM to have the honour of US state visit and he is third Global leader to receive a state visit invitation from US President Biden. PM Modi was seen inspecting guard of honour at airport without umbrella under heavy rain, US lawmakers seen taking selfies / autograph with him when he gave a speech in US Congress. His speech evoked multiple applause and standing ovations etc. But these are pure optics. What matters most is the business, collaboration deals and strategic tie-ups signed with USA. Indian PM Nehru also had best of optics during his first USA visit in 1949. Newly independent India had massive food shortage in 1950s and hence government had to beg for wheat from USA and the same situation continued in 1960s when USA supplied PL480 wheat. In 1949 not just food but the foreign exchange position was even worse. In November 1949 PM Nehru mad

Pakistani ex-President Gen. Parvez Musharraf was born in an old Delhi havelli and migrated to Pakistan with family during the partition. These vacated old Delhi houses were not given to Hindu and Sikh Pakistani refugees from west Punjab and kept vacant for some time with the hope original occupants who migrated to Pakistan will one day claim these properties. Similarly, MA Jinnah’s palatial house in Mumbai was not taken over by Indian government. Hindu and Sikh Pakistani refugees from west Punjab were settled in completely newly built refugee colonies called Lajpat Nagar, Malviya Nagr, Punjabi Bagh and Tilak Nagar etc. on the outskirts of Delhi city. These places were far away from city centre and in early 1950s and they completely lacked basic civic amenities. Hence these refugees had to struggle a lot for more than a decade to rebuild their lives. Those refugee’s hard struggle made these residential colonies in south/south west Delhi prosperous residential colonies today after 7 deca

In 1990s, India and USA were at loggerheads diplomatically on most global issues. India often accused USA Secretary of state Madeleine Albright and others in 1990s that they openly takes Pakistan’s side. USA’s official statements appear to be drafted by Pakistan and always ignored India’s geo-political concerns. This is because Pakistan was a USA ally during cold war days and supported USA in Afghan war against Soviets. In early 1990s, India and the United States were two ‘estranged democracies’ trying to re-discover mutually after decades of mutual suspicion during cold war decades. After breakup of Soviet Union in 1991, India launched ‘look east policy’ for close co-operation with South East Asian (AEAN) countries and sole super power USA. Fast forward to recent Indian PM Modi’s June 2023 USA official visit joint statement on Pakistan. US and India on strongly condemned cross-border terr0rism and the use of terr0rist proxies and called on Pakistan (by taking name directly) to take im
