Why was Sardar Patel not honoured with the Bharat Ratna by any PM before P. V. Narsimha Rao?

Image
Sardar Patel died at the age of 75 on 15 December 1950. He was advised to shift to Bombay (Mumbai) for health reason and harsh north Indian winter in Delhi. Nehru and Rajaji went to Bombay to attend his funeral. Historian KM Munshi written in his book (Pilgrimage to freedom, page 290) that Nehru instructed his cabinet ministers, President Rajendra Prasad and senior bureaucrats not to attend Sardar’s funeral. VP Menon, NV Gadgil and Satyanarayan Sinha and Rajendra Prasad still attended despite Nehru’s objection and VP Menon financed visit of 12 bureaucrats from his personal finances. This annoyed Nehru who perhaps wanted a low-profile Sardar’s funeral and gave instruction that anybody wanted to attend the funeral must travel on personal expenses. Despite Nehru’s attempt to downplay the event, about 10 lakhs people attended Sardar’s funeral in Bombay. This is in sharp contrast to Nehru’s high-profile funeral of Gandhiji two years ago. What could be the reason for this difference? Is it b

Is Rahul Gandhi really stupid or has he just been branded as such?

There cannot be smoke without fire. There might be some truth in the way RaGa is projected in social media. Social media need spicy half-truth sensational stories just like films and Bollywood in particular need item number songs to popularise the film. Item numbers are launched much before the film and based on feedback of that item number actual film was launched. Consider the recent Gujarat state assembly election 2022 which congress performed poorly. Congress lost power in Gujarat in 1995 and was gaining seat share subsequently during every five-year assembly result but failed for form a government since then. Congress got 45 seats in 1995, 53 in 1998, 51 in 2002 post Gujarat riot, 59 in 2007, 61 in 2012, 78 in 2017 showing improvement in every election due to anti-incumbency factor. But 2022 result was a disaster for congress with 17 seats. What could be the reasons? There can be many factors which were outside the control of congress like high decibel AAP campaign with two CMs wh

Hardik Patel belongs to which party?

Image
The political career of Hardik Patel started in August 2015 Patidar agitation in Gujarat when he was 22 years old. Patidars (Patels) are dominant upper caste, politically active and economically prosperous community in one of the most prosperous Gujarat state. So, by no parameters, they can get government reservations going by the rule book. It was a political agitation of job reservation for Patidars probably planted by congress to embarrass Narendra Modi who became PM year back in May 2014. Later Hardik Patel joined congress to start his political innings. This is perfectly ok but there was big flaw in the process. Within 3-4 days of intense Patidar agitation, thousands of buses and public properties were burnt in August 2015. PM Modi had to appeal to calm down and discuss the matter across the table. The total loss in the Gujarat state was staggering Rs 25000 Crore over a period of one year! This is certainly not the correct way to launch a political carrier. But in India, things ha

Rahul Gandhi has blamed AAP for the loss of Congress in Gujarat. Do you agree with his view?

Rahul Gandhi contradicted his own statement before the Gujarat state election in 2022. This is called shooting from the hips in politics. Picture source: Google / Respective rightful owner

Bihar, India: Who is the most badass Bihari ever?

Image
Recently Bihar CM Nitish Kumar said ‘jo piyega, whoh marega’ which means anybody who drinks (illicit) liquor will die. He was responding to a hooch tragedy where more than 50 people died on 15 December 2022. Generally Indian politicians don’t care for human tragedy. At best they declare compensation from tax payers money if that suits them politically, in front of media after visiting tragedy site. If the politician comes under heavy pressure, they may initiate ‘an enquirey comission’ under somre retired judge (who may have some political affiliations) so that the crisis is blown away. A court judegement, if any, will take more than decades and meanwhile politicians can enjoy fruits of power. Nitish Kumar says ‘jo piyega, whoh marega’ This statement maked Nitish Kumar most badass politician from Bihar. Incidently, he consider himself socialist and responsible veteran politician who was Bihar CM for four times. Picture source: Google / Respective rightful owner P.S. - Answer is neither

What are your views on the election results of Gujarat that the BJP won and AAP lose?

One Indian eminent industrialist once said – subsidies are burden for the future generation. Nobody took that statement seriously. AAP and Kejriwal is banking on this subsidy like free water, electricity, bus ride etc. as carrot to get votes. BJP on the other hand believes improvement in infrastructure including mega projects to improve economic conditions of future generations. The Gujarat election 2022 result shows people strongly rejected AAP’s subsidy carrots and preferred not to waste tax payers’ money for freebies and self-promotion. Whatever votes AAP got in Gujarat is not because of freebie promises but collapse of congress party. Communists in Bengal done something similar, what Kejriwal is doing, during their 34-year rule (1977-2011) and destroyed the state. Kejriwal is replicating that model in Delhi, Punjab and north India with grave long term economic consequences. This is a long answer to understand loopholes of Kejriwal model. The Salma Dam, also known as the Afghan-Indi
